Why heat soaking exists

A small fraction of toughened glass contains nickel-sulfide inclusions that can expand years later and shatter the pane with no impact — the classic “spontaneous breakage”. Heat-soak testing holds toughened panels at elevated temperature so that affected panels break in the factory instead of on the building.
